I have just been recently introduced to the practise. My question is how long does it take usually to get a victory? a month or more of chanting or longer.

December 12, 2010

I have known of NMRK for many years.
I have practiced meditation and chanting
for many years as well.
Recently, I just "felt" drawn to beginning
this practice in earnest after chatting
briefly with a practitioner who had 20+ years
of experience. Thus far I have had one
interesting experience. I chanted before I
went to sleep at 11:30 PM PST Saturday night.
I had to wake up at 4:00 AM PST.
Instead I was WIDE awake at 2:50 AM PST.
I feel pretty good but, seeing as it is Sunday morning,
I am going back to sleep.
Thank you for posting this site.
I will continue to practice and research this matter.

Whoops! Forgot all about asking that Q. But thanks for the response Sidharth. I got a lot out of the first answer on mental focus. But to be honest I'm still unclear about how often I "should" be chanting to effect change in my life. I used to feel positive change happening more when I chanted but not so much anymore. It just doesn't seem as effective. Weird. Note; I moved during that period of time and usually end up facing a WINDOW or focusing at a point several feet away. Today I will try 1) clearing my mind/no focus on the subject matter I need sorted out and 2) I will focus on the wall about arm's distance away. P.S. Not a member of SGI P.S.S. Also, I think window's can be tricky. Feng Shui says they let thoughts fly away. I say at night they turn into mirrors.

First thing first! I am really sorry for late reply!

That's an interesting analogy!

Ah yes, chanting sometimes can feel a bit weird. It's more of a faith thing - developing and directing your belief system. More like emptying yourself. it'd take a book to describe the science of chanting.

I usually chant for half an hour as a practice. I am active member of Soka Gakkai International. Google it ;)

Cheers!

Hi Sid,

I've chanted on and off for a few years. I've heard chanting liked to a spinning top - it takes a while to get the momentum going but when the inertia is strong enough the top continues to spin for an indefinite time.

I've been inspired from chanting for hours at a time. Other times a certain chant doesn't feel as comfortable and nothing seems to happen. Either way, try not to judge. That's the essence of life really; don't judge. Everything *is*, whether it's meditating, chanting, or living.

How often do you chant buddy? I've focused on meditating while acting only when inspired recently, which is the only acting we should all be taking :)
