A very Happy New Year to all the awesome readers of Meditation Rocks!

A new year, a new decade, a new day, a new life – it’s perfect time to be what you want to be, have what you want to have and yes – meditate. I personally spend last minute of 2009 and first 5 minutes of 2010 in meditation. How exciting is that? Year ling meditation!

So have you included ‘Meditation’ in your new year’s resolution? Here is a bit of help – a free wallpaper for you that will remind you to meditate.

You can download it here.

OUR New Years Resoultion

Here are some more resolutions that we could take as a community of meditators. What say? Well go ahead and give it a read. If you like them follow them (and lemme know) also you can add to them in comments section.

Communicate:

Information is everywhere. To tell you the truth, there are better sites out there who can give you more information on meditation. But what makes us different is that we interact. We as in you and me. So let’s keep the good thing alive- ask, tell, advice, help. Why not reply to someone else’s comment and start a discussion? This will take us long way and help the new ideas come to fruition.

Not only here, interact with your friends, family, work-mates … everyone. You will be surprised how many wonderful things unfold.

Share

Love increases when shared. So let’s share more. Share what you have- time, love, gratitude, knowledge. You will feel wonderful and new things will flow unto you. I cannot tell you how much I’ve learned after starting this blog.

So remember to use ‘Share the Love’ when you read an article on this blog, you can share link to the article on facebook, twitter, orkut etc. just by clicking on the icon of the site.

Educate

Education is must if you want to keep up with thoughts from leading edge. As in keeping up with that which is new. So read inspiring books, read blogs, magazines (good magazines) try and educate yourself on the subjects that interest you most.

So, are these resolutions worth following? Lemme know what you think in comments.

My New Year Resolution for Meditation Rocks!

How meditating in noisy environment can yield wonderful results.

Sounds sarcastic eh? On one hand we think of meditation as peaceful activity to be performed in silent coroners of world. People even go to the mountain tops and retreats to meditate. Cutting off from rest of the world.

Is Meditation Powerless?

But here is the thing, if meditation needs so much of peace before it could be practiced, if meditation needs you to run away from your lifestyle doesn’t that mean that meditation is powerless in front of all these things?

Is the honking of horn, laughing of people, shouting crowd, raging traffic, chattering mind more powerful than meditation?

I’d say meditation is far more powerful than all these things put together. Meditation is so powerful that Buddha was enlightened, Jesus defeated Satan and You rocked your life!

So Why Go to Silence?

So why do we go to retreats? Why do we run away? Why to we need silence to create silence?

There is not one reason. People what to create a mood, take a break, it’s easier, distractions are less and all sorts of stuff expect ‘I want to meditate.’ And when you really do want, it will happen, right there and then. No matter where you are standing, what you are doing.

Personal Experience

I’ve meditated in my school, in libraries, in public parks, at discos and many places that I will not utter here. And there was no hardly any difference. In fact, I find it quiet amusing and it helps me a lot to feel detached.

When I am meditating, I pay no heed to the meaning of sounds around me. Though I am highly aware of them because of raised sense of awareness but all sounds are meaningless. And this practice helps me render all the struggles meaningless at any point of time and I can walk out of problems with my heart full of gratitude.

Peace is a bridge and so is violence. But bridges can never hinder my practice.

Group Discussion

So after reading this don’t you feel that noisy environment is not only good but in some ways awesome for meditation?

Tomorrow I will discuss with you how to meditate in a noisy environment. Till then let’s discuss what other benefits it could offer. And if any of you have tried that already, please share your experience.

Manav Dhiman shares his experience with Meditation and how helpful Meditation Rocks (this blog) was.

Meditation! This experience is awesome. I don’t know why, but it comes from within (may be because of The Law of Attraction)
When I first saw Meditation Rocks! a blog discussing new methods of meditation, I was totally fired up. I started meditation based on the methods suggested on the website. But, you’ll not believe, in my first attempt, I kept on losing my concentration (focus).
Then, I waited for some time to see more methods on the website and some of them worked for me and some of them didn’t (and it’ll be the same case with you!). So I started doing the techniques which I liked, and they were amazing.

I was doing meditation from the last two years, but not like this. I was totally blown away by it. So, I kept doing it for some days and the results were astonishing. The state when you’re meditating just feels so good. I felt tension-free after that and I was able to concentrate on my studies too (what I wanted).
And then I found the answers of many things which I never got. Meditation also helps in the process of The Law of Attraction. It has worked for me, and is still working!
The best thing is, when you start doing it you feel very good. And feeling good is the most good thing in the Universe! That feeling good is not forced to come but comes from within. And that is the magic of meditation. It was truly awesome doing that! And that awesomeness helps us finding the true path of life which many of us try to find.

I had an inner nudge to discover more methods myself. So I kept on experimenting and I really got some awesome ideas! Some of them are:

Meditate while you wait! This method works and saves your time and also passes the time. I started doing that, while waiting for my school bus and in the school bus as well! And you know what it really helps. Just use the simple techniques of meditation…!

The second one is actually there is no second one! But if I find one I’ll surely send a post to meditation rocks! rejuvenated

But, in one word, meditation ROCKS!!!
Please let me know what you think of my experience in comments.

Your handwriting tells a lot about you. So can meditation help in improving handwriting.

I know, meditation and handwriting seem to be totally unrelated. But trust me there is a deep connection and Let’s dig it out now.

“Good handwriting is the symbol of literacy” – Mahatma Gandhi

I am not a handwriting expert and I am not a meditation expert either. I am just an explorer like you, journeying through this wonderful world and sharing my experience with you and inviting you to do the same.

Handwriting

So what’s the link. Handwriting is not just some marks we make that could be translated into thoughts. It is much more than that, it represents our core personality. It represents our own take on concepts and thoughts. That’s why we write our lover’s name in best possible way and we don’t write name of those we don’t like.

Meditation

Meditation brings out the best in you – the real you. The God like divinity is brought to surface and that true being cannot have unreadable handwriting. When we are improving inside, when our thoughts are enlightened, our handwriting reflects it.

Improve it!

Take a blank piece of paper and a pen. Sit in meditation for 5 min (any meditation you like or have explored).

Open your eyes and start writing.

Write random things, whatever you want.

Mind will speed up the ideas, but take control and go slow.

You don’t have to fill the page, just write what you want.

Write for 5 min and stop.

Keep the paper some where safe.

Repeat everyday and keep collecting the papers (to see improvements)

Don’t try to improve

The catch is, don’t try to improve or make your handwriting beautiful. Let it come itself, let yourself feel the beauty that is already there.

Don’t copy

Do not open a book in front of you to copy and write. Just write what random thoughts come in mind. “Baby sings melody.” “Cat is on the biggest mat” etc. are fine. Even words like “Venkarzentuita” are fine. Just write what comes from inside.

Don’t repeat that sentence

Many childrens’ cursive writing books follow the technique of repeating same sentence 10-15 times over and over again. It is fine for kids who are learning to make marks. But in reality, we don’t write a sentence over and over again. We have rushed stream of ideas or information. And it is better to practice practically!

Share your progress

After 2 weeks of practicing this exercise, you will see huge improvements (I started it 2 weeks ago and I am seeing results already). Click a photo of your first page and latest one. And send it to us, or upload on our facebook page wall. Share your achievements and enjoy the compliments.

So you want to start meditation eh? But you are already doing it! Listening to favorite music, spending time with friends & singing out loud is all meditation...

Do you think you don’t meditate? Well think again! What happens when it’s your favourite track playing on iPod? When you feel so good petting your cat? When you love spending time with your best friend? When you just take a quick nap? You are meditating! No, really you are!

Meditation is as Natural as Breathing.

You don’t have to sit in some yoga poses wearing orange clothes to meditate. Think of it as breathing. Do you take out time to breathe? Do you make any extra effort to breathe? Do you wear special clothes to breathe? No! Same is true for meditation too.

Don’t do anything to begin. Either follow the simple meditation process I talked about in earlier post or just do any of following:

Plug-in your iPod: Just put on your favourite inspirational music. Love songs do the best.

Paint: Even if you think you can’t. Just paint for the fun of it, not to show it to anyone… just for your soul.

Write a Poem: Let your thoughts flow, forget the rhyming scheme or book on ‘How to Write Poetry’ just be with the flow.

Watch Sunset or Sunrise: It’s wonderful, do it with someone special and now it’s really special.

Travel: You are not living your life id you are not traveling.

Pet your cat: or whatever pet you have (if you have one)

Play with a baby: it really teaches you a lot.

Play a music instrument or Learn to play one.

Watch Comedy Shows: Well that’s easy

What’s on your list? Add to the list! Let’s make it grow. (Use comment section)

None of these sound like traditional meditation, do they? Well that’s what this blog is all about: new simple, easy or crazy ideas.

These simple things will allow you get more control over your thoughts. They will start flying in formations. You will begin to change your feelings deliberately. You will start living by heart. This is meditation. Just let go. Be at ease and let it flow. Now, you are at peace.

Share your experiences, problems, questions or simple/crazy ideas in comments. I’d love to hear them all!
