Meditation is Dead

Meditation is Dead

in Overcoming Obstacles

Yea you heard it right! Quiet a statement, isn’t it? I too was shocked when I heard one of my friends saying this. He clarified further (after seeing the look on my face and remembering that I blog about Meditation), “Dude, I respect your passion and creativity and the amount of hard work you are putting into it, but trust me it is dead. Dead as in not in use anymore.”
He took a brief pause and if you are wondering, I was quiet calm (I meditate, you see). “Let’s put it this way”, he continued, “I am the future generation and I don’t meditate and as far as I know I won’t meditate ever. And the 100 instant friends I know are like me expect the 101th like you. So, meditation is dying art, in fact it is dead. Anyways, all the best with it.”

Mediation is Dead

What do you think was my reaction? Did I burst with laughter? Or did I give him a long lecture summarizing all the content I had in my mind?

Well, none of above! I just smiled and said, “Yeah Dude! It’s so dead. Let’s grab a bite.”

Surprised again? Don’t worry, I am not planning to close the blog since my friend(s) think that meditation is dead… just I am going to share with you what I think about it(that’s what I always do).

So here is a guy who consciously knows nothing about meditation and subconsciously meditates (he is huge fan of country music). Here he is breathing and saying that breathing has no future.

I just have one thought about the whole thing, and it is quiet calming. Meditation is an experience that every being goes through (consciously or unconsciously) and give it the best name he could. And lives a whole lifetime trying to achieve it. While it is here, in now – in the present moment.

Humans are funny; they spend a lifetime preparing for a lifetime.

Let meditation be dead, for humans have always dreamt of bringing back the dead (it’s thrilling). Here, meditation gives you a chance to experience that too.

So is meditation dead for you?

Yeah, in some way your friend is correct. Meditation is slowly dying! As you see there are a very less number of teens and adults who practice meditation. But as you said, while hearing to your favorite music is a great way of meditation (surely your friend don't read this blog!). So meditation is, you can say, “physically” dead but “mentally” it is in everyone! :D

Lol! Welcome to the 'Meditation is Dead Club' dear (I am not a member, sorry!). Meditation is being experienced by humans in one way or other. They know it or not. So Meditation can never be dead (in my opinion).
Though thanks for sharing your opinion, it really matters what one thinks about meditation consciously as it affects your own state of bring.

Meditation isn't for everyone. BUT it's a perfect niche to blog about!

So true! Yes indeed it is! Thanks for support!
No one was doing it properly and passionately, so I took the initiative.

    Sid,

Meditation is only dead if you believe it's dead for your little corner of the universe; ie – if you believe it's dead for you.

I wake up between 4:15 and 5:00 each morning to sit in stillness. I've experienced clarity, detachment, and peace when going about my workday since I've adhered to this practice.

No, meditation is not dead, not in these parts, my friend :)

Skeptics in connection with any enriching, life-affirming activity are a common lot. This is because many people are spiritually dead. As Christ said, “Let the dead bury the dead.”

My job is not to convince others to try meditation. My duty is to share my experience with meditation to my audience and go about my life according to the flow of the universe.

    Dear Ryan,
And you have nailed it my friend. That was my purpose of writing this post.
Meditation cannot be dead, for even if we don't know it, we are into it. I cannot imagine human race coming this far without meditation.
Let's celebrate this immortal eternal practice and as you very rightly quoted “”Let the dead bury the dead.”
    :)

Performing an intellectual act with all of your senses involved, with total concentration in a relaxed state of mind is nothing but meditation, which gives satisfaction and clarity.

Loving what you do and doing it at your own pace of time with no stress or anxiety is but meditation.

Contemplating with pure sense of mind and body is meditation.

Meditation promises to give us good clarity of vission. Learning and executing should be a pleasure and not pain. When we combine this with love for everything it reaps success. That sounds simple enough is'nt it?

So meditation is what we do every day for every act we do only it differs in the way we do and turn it to a nightmare or pleasure.

I think that 'meditation' as it has been popularised up till now – with gurus, incense, pujas, mantras, lotus position, and so on – could well be losing its fascination in the West. Having myself practised Transcendental Meditation and the TM-Sidhis for over thirty years, I have moved into a more effortless method that has none of the traditional trappings. And my own experience is that it is just as effective as TM, if not more so. And it's free and available everywhere there is an Internet connection.
