Remember to Meditate

How to Remind Yourself to Meditate

in Tips & Tricks

So you’ve heard this very much on this blog, sometimes in comments section and sometimes in the posts that Meditating at a fixed time everyday helps. As in my case, I don’t meditate like this. I meditate whenever I feel like – Sometimes morning, sometimes afternoon and sometimes at night.

But recently I found out an amazing technique with which now I meditate every morning. It also helped me to clear up my mind before I went to give my exams. So what is this amazing technique?

The technique is a simple task of setting up a reminder on your cell phone! Yes, you read it correct – Setting up a reminder on your cell phone! Just put up a reminder, and if you remember or not that you have to meditate, it’ll surely help you!

How this works?

The reason behind the working of this technique is that when you see the reminder that you have set, your brain takes it as an order. Not like an order which you don’t like, but as an order that you’ll be curious to do! When you’ll see the remainder you will feel to do that thing. That’s how our brain works.

You can’t understand what I am saying until you do it yourself. This is worth an experience. So take your cell phone, put up a reminder of whichever time you want to meditate and just be relaxed that you don’t have to bother about it!

PS: It will work best if you’ll put up a reminder of a morning session.

PPS: For all those young mediators, who don’t have a cell phone yet, you can put up a sticky note / Post-it notes at a place where you’ll see it at the time you want to meditate!

Manav, I know exactly what you're saying. I began to get up at 6 AM recently. I use the cell phone alarm to wake me.

There's no arguing with a cell phone alarm. It says “get the heck up” with its alarm and continues to chirp until you turn it off. Unlike an airy thought in your mind – or mental reminder – which often gets a working over from a paradigm of bad habits. We all know the chatter.

With meditation it goes like….”I want to meditate but I gotta get something to eat first. It's nice out, going to head outside now, meditate later. Now there's a good show on TV, I'll meditate later.”…..and it goes on and on so that you don't sit for the entire day.

Powerful advice. Sometimes what seems like the most simple tip can change a life immeasurably. Well done buddy.

Hey Ryan, great to see you commenting on MY post! Thought no one read it! ;)

Yeah, I have the same kind of an alarm tune! Remainder really helps. That's the reason I wrote this post because I thought that this is not being highlighted here.

    Thanks again! :)

    Hey Manav,

I am so sorry I could not get back to you on this one. This post was really good man, you know I never but bad stuff on my blogs.
Don't think that no of comments = no. of people who read it. Google Analytics tells me that this post was quiet popular and was RTed quiet often too.

There are so many posts on MR where people don't comment but they do read and like it too.

    Cheer up!
