I'm bumping it up Sid. I've been meditating for 30 minutes in the morning but will now add an evening session. Also been keeping up with sun-moon meditation throughout the day.

Cool! You know Ryan, it took me 5 years to reach the stage where I would just close my eyes and go straight into meditation – but I think you are already in that stage. Are you not?

How do you meditate with open eyes and while walking? For meditation, one must be calm, silent and static. Meditation is non-involvement of thoughts… If we keep our eyes open, how can we not stop ourselves in collecting all the data that we see? While walking, we tend to become a little restless and in a hurry.. Can you please clear my doubts about meditation, King Sidharth?

  • Ram

I chose dark chocolate because it is less sweet and more dense (matter). (keep a piece of chocolate ready near you) Meditate for some time with eyes close, slowly slide in the chocolate into your mouth and observe the immediate reactions. Do not engage (or try to control) but observe how your tongue and senses react. The tongue naturally begins to brush the chocolate against the upper part of the mouth and you find yourself smiling as you begin to indulge :) . Go with the flow, not in a hurry. After you are done with that piece. Notice how your tongue begins to tastes its own self, it is trying to say it wants more (Bad boy!).

Take a deep breath, visualize a refrigerator – which you open and find all the chocolates one could think of. You begin to tear and eat them (as much as you want) and notice you being able to taste them too :) .

Afterwards, you can do 'third eye' meditation for realization.

    Hey Parth,

That is an awesome question! And you are right, Meditation is no-thought. Thought there are posts lined up on these topics but I prefer to answer this now.

As you practice meditation again and again, that state of being (not mind, mind is switched off) becomes more easier for you to relate with. And soon you can take that state to open eyes, walking, swimming, running.

Do you ever had a moment when you gaze at something thinking nothing, just starting. This happens usually after you wake up. You just keep looking and think nothing. That, my friend, is meditation with open eyes. Meditation is natural state of our mind, and that data that we are collecting is not more dominant than what we really are. Practicing your real state of being – makes it so.

So with walking, and running. If you go and ask an athlete, what do you think when you are running – if he knows his mind – he will say 'nothing'. He might say: pain, stretch, goal, end of race, prize but if you dig a little deep – he wasn't thinking all that he was observing all that – without judgment. And that is, again, meditation.

I hope that clears the doubt? If not, stay tuned I've posts about these subjects coming up, or you can head up to Contact page and mail me, or you can ask more questions here too.

Thank you so much for asking this question and adding value to the post.

    Cheers!

    Ram,
You know what? THis is A-W-E-S-O-M-E! I love it. Can you write a guest post for us about this? Many people would love it! Or I can write it on your behalf if you give me permission to share your 'AWESOME' technique.

Man! You've nailed it! The essence of meditation. Taking your thoughts to a point where they do not judge – but observe and hence do not expand and become – no thought.

    JUST WOW!

    Oh.. I see..

Thank You for clearing my doubts about this. But I feel, the state of meditation with your eyes open or while walking that you just explained may be a little difficult to attain. I mean, it shall take a lot of time for an amateur to master such levels of meditation.

Anyway, I am really impressed by your answer and am glad that I could add value to this post! I'll stay updated to your blog..!

It is not at all difficult. It doesn't take any time. All it takes is desire – a happy and hopeful desire. Not a doubtful one.
Because 'work' takes effort and time, but meditation takes 'no work' and 'no time'. Try Zazen: http://www.meditationrocks.us/zazen-easiest-med…

You will know what I mean. Trust me dude, you can be meditating with open eyes today. I say practice so you know when you are there – coz it is so easy to ignore it.

I am glad that I was of some use to you :D Glad to have you here in the community.
